For the year-long DEX-theme “Point of no Return”, Amelie Katavič and Sophie Koschitz began to explore aspects of their family history. They decided upon embroidery as material visualization. This technique allowed them to express accumulations, rapprochement, blank spaces and overlaps. The piece is fashioned in cross-stitch. Both sides of the textile are equal and thus turn into a meeting point for both art students. The embroidery was placed into a frame, akin to traditional embroidery settings. Performative qualities of cross-stitching were explored in the realm of the seminar “Performance Practices”. For the Angewandte Festival, the approximation between Katavič and Koschitz in their embroidery Meeting Point in Cross-Stitch will be shown performatively through a communal cross-stitching session.
This work was produced in the context of the first-years project of DEX within the group of Manora Auersperg.

Für das DEX-Jahresthema „Point of no Return” haben Amelie Katavič und Sophie Koschitz begonnen, ihren Familiengeschichten aufzuarbeiten. Zur materiellen Visualisierung haben sie sich für eine Stickarbeit entschieden, da diese ihnen erlaubt, Verdichtungen, Annäherungen, Leerstellen und Überlagerungen darzustellen. Angelegt ist die Arbeit im Kreuzstich. Die beiden Seiten des Trägermaterials unterliegen einer Gleichbehandlung und sind Ort des Aufeinandertreffens der beiden Künstler*innen. Der Rahmen, welcher das Objekt eingespannt, orientiert sich an klassischen Stickrahmen. Performative Qualitäten des Stickens als Technik wurden im Zuge des Seminars „Performative Praxen” ausgelotet. Für das Angewandte Festivals wird die Annäherung zwischen Katavič und Koschitz in Meeting Point im Cross-Stich durch ein gemeinsames Sticken performativ gezeigt.
Diese Arbeit entstand im Rahmen des Erstjahresprojekt des Studiengang DEX in der Gruppe von Manora Auersperg.
Amelie Katavič (*2003, Stuttgart) is based in Vienna. Since October 2022 she studies art and communicative practice (kkp) and design, material culture and experimental practice (dex) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Prior to that Katavič studied art history and philosophy at the University Stuttgart in 2021/2022. Katavič’s work varies between the topics of working through individual perception and personal experience, as well as visual and auditory perception. Right now their focus is on the process of translating from Image to Sound and Sound to Image, as well as the interplay of sound and visual perception. Their artistic name is Edo.
Sophie Koschitz (*1990, Klagenfurt) is based in Vienna. After graduating with a master’s degree in Entrepreneurship & Marketing in Tourism, and 6 years of work experience in tourism research, she decided to give her artistic practices more time and space. Since October 2022, she is studying design, material culture and experimental practice (dex) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In her works she explores personal stories and combines experiences with theory. Although her media varies, she predominantly uses screen printing, performance and textiles in her current projects.
Amelie Katavič (*2003, Stuttgart) lebt in Wien und studiert seit Oktober 2022 Kunst und kommunikative Praxis (kkp) und Design, materielle Kultur und experimentelle Praxis (dex) an der Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien. Davor studierte Katavič Kunstgeschichte und Philosophie an der Universität Stuttgart in den Jahren 2021/2022. Katavič Werke setzen sich sowohl mit Themen der Aufarbeitung bezogen auf individuelle Wahrnehmung und persönliche Erfahrungen, als auch mit visueller und auditiver Perzeption auseinander. Im Moment konzentriert Katavič sich auf den Prozess des Übersetzens von Bild zu Ton, Ton zu Bild und das Wechselspiel/Zusammenspiel von Sound und visueller Wahrnehmung. Amelie Katavič bevorzugt den Namen Edo.
Sophie Koschitz (*1990, Klagenfurt) lebt in Wien. Nach ihrem Masterabschluss in Entrepreneurship & Marketing im Tourismus und 6 Jahren einschlägiger Berufserfahrung, fiel die Entscheidung ihrer künstlerischen Ader mehr Raum zu geben. Als Lehramtsstudentin im Fachbereich Design, materielle Kultur und experimentelle Praxis (dex) studiert sie seit Oktober 2022 an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien. Ihre Arbeiten tragen die Handschrift persönlicher Erfahrungen, verknüpft mit theoretischen Aspekten. Im Moment liegt ihr Fokus auf Improvisationen, Druck- und Textilpraktiken.
