Based on the topic “The Point of no Return”, our work uses the “PointE of no return” through humor. The goal was to trigger a laugh reflex, as a “PointE of no return” in the recipient. The Phrase Mixer uses a mechanism we all know from game machines: by pressing a lever (here – a button), reels are set in motion and stop after a short time, hoping for the appearance of three identical symbols. In our work we have removed two reels of an old slot machine, equipped with proverbs that recombine when the button is pressed. The jackpot here is not money, of course, but a blended proverb that will put a smile on your face!

Ausgehend von der Themenstellung „Point of no Return“, beschäftigten wir uns in unserer Arbeit mit der „PointE of no return“, beziehungsweise mit dem Witz. Das Ziel war es, einen Lachreflex, also einen „PointE of no return“ bei den Rezipient*innen auszulösen. Der Phrase Mixer bedient sich einem uns allen bekannten Mechanismus eines Spieleautomaten, der durch das Betätigen eines Hebels (hier ein Knopf) Walzen in Bewegung setzt und nach einer kurzen Zeit stoppt, in der Hoffnung, dass drei mal dieselben Symbole erscheinen. In unserer Arbeit haben wir zwei Walzen einer alten Slotmaschine ausgebaut und diese mit Sprichwörtern bespielt, die sich beim Betätigen des Knopfs neu kombinieren. Der Jackpot ist hier natürlich nicht Geld, sondern ein zusammengemischtes Sprichwort, das dir ein Lächeln ins Gesicht zaubert!
Diese Arbeit entstand im Rahmen des Erstjahresprojekt des Studiengang DEX in der Gruppe von
Christoph Kaltenbrunner.
Linda Zimmermann, Hannah Schwab and Matthias Vieider, art students of the art education program at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. As part of a seminar they developed the Phrase Mixer. An interdisciplinary approach enriches the project. All three students come from different backgrounds. Hannah Schwab studies in the painting class at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg, Matthias Vieder is a trained saxophonist and comes from the language arts, Linda Zimmermann is a trained graphic designer and illustrator.
Linda Zimmermann, Hannah Schwab und Matthias Vieider studieren Lehramt an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien und entwickelten im Rahmen eines Seminars den Phrase Mixer. Ein interdisziplinärer Ansatz bereichert das Projekt. Alle drei Studierenden kommen aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen. Hannah Schwab studiert in der Klasse für Malerei an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg, Matthias Vieder ist gelernter Saxophonist und kommt aus der Sprachkunst, Linda Zimmermann ist gelernte Grafikerin und Illustratorin.
