Not talking about necessary medical treatment and making abortions illegal does not eliminate the existence of abortions. It just makes them more inaccessible and dangerous to those who need them. Even in countries where abortions are no longer considered criminal offenses, individuals still face various barriers, including organizational, financial, emotional, and time barriers when seeking to pursue their self-determined decision. Most often, the necessary support for and education about a topic that has existed as long as humanity itself and is also a human right is lacking.

Das Nicht-Sprechen über eine notwendige medizinische Behandlung und die Illegalisierung von Abtreibungen bedeuten nicht, dass es keine Abtreibungen mehr geben wird. Sie werden dadurch nur unzugänglicher und gefährlicher für die Personen, die sie benötigen. Selbst in Ländern, in denen Abtreibungen entkriminalisiert sind, gibt es organisatorische, finanzielle, emotionale und zeitliche Hürden für Personen, die ihrer selbstbestimmten Entscheidung nachgehen. Meist fehlt die notwendige Unterstützung für und Aufklärung über ein Thema, das so lange existiert wie die Menschheit selbst und zudem ein Menschenrecht ist.
Nargol Gharahshir, an art mediator with an educational background from Vienna and Lisbon, specializes in working with children, young people, and adults both within and outside formal educational systems. In recent years, their focus has shifted towards artistic research, engaging as a student researcher for the dementia-centered project DEMEDARTS and working at Lisbon’s HANGAR – Artistic Research Center. Additionally, they participated in the Art Educators in Residence program at documenta fifteen. Nargol’s approach is deeply influenced by intersectional feminism, and they prioritize making critical content accessible. Their artistic practice predominantly utilizes (moving) images, illustrations, and tangible objects to facilitate communication. They are dedicated to creating spaces for dialogue, fostering inclusivity, and promoting playful and creative engagements through art mediation.
Nargol Gharahshir ist Kunstvermittlerin mit Ausbildungen in Wien und Lissabon. Im Bereich der Kunstvermittlung arbeitet Nargol mit Kindern, Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen innerhalb und außerhalb von Schulen. In den letzten Jahren ist die künstlerische Forschung in den Fokus gerückt. Sie war studentische Mitarbeiterin des künstlerischen Forschungsprojekts DEMEDARTS über Demenz, arbeitete im HANGAR – Artistic Research Center in Lissabon und war zuletzt Teil der Art Educators in Residence auf der documenta fifteen. Ihre Praxis wird vom intersektionalen Feminismus und dem Zugänglichmachen kritischer Inhalte beeinflusst. In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis kommuniziert sie vermehrt durch (bewegte) Bilder, Illustrationen und haptische Objekte. Ihr Anliegen ist es, durch künstlerische Vermittlung Diskussionsräume zu öffnen, Inklusion zu praktizieren und spielerisch-kreative Auseinandersetzungen zu schaffen.
