Words of No Return

What is your intention when you put words into the world and what path do they really take? Is it possible to control this path? Is it possible to fix the effects or meaning of a word? The “point of no return” is in every word and in every linguistic utterance. Digital media allow us to delete statements, but even erased messages influence our surroundings. Words, spoken or written, are a “point of no return” in their individual meaning and the acoustic signals they send into the world. In this context, it cannot be predicted which effect statements will have and how they will be perceived.
This work was produced in the context of the first-years project of DEX within the group of Jakob Scheid.

Welche Intention hat man, wenn man Wörter in die Welt setzt und welchen Weg gehen diese? Kann man diesen Weg überhaupt kontrollieren? Lässt sich die Wirkung, beziehungsweise Bedeutung eines Wortes überhaupt grundsätzlich fixieren? Der „Point of no Return“ steckt in jedem Wort und in jeder sprachlichen Äußerung. Digitale Medien ermöglichen uns zwar, Äußerungen scheinbar wieder zu löschen, jedoch haben selbst gelöschte Nachrichten Einfluss auf unsere Umgebung. Ausgesprochene oder ausgeschriebene Worte sind ein „Point of no Return“ in ihrer individuellen Bedeutung und dem akustischen Signal, das sie in die Welt setzen. Dabei ist es nicht vorab bestimmbar, wie Äußerungen wirken und wahrgenommen werden.
Diese Arbeit entstand im Rahmen des Erstjahresprojekt des Studiengang DEX in der Gruppe von Jakob Scheid.
Since 2021, Valentina Santner (*2001) is studying at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Her works approach themes of her own interest at that moment. Language is always of central importance. It is a medium that allows her to organize and shape her thoughts. Often she brings her texts or poems in connection with other media and combines her love for writing and creation.
Since 2021, Annika Zwillich (*2002) is a student at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In her work she explores themes such as physicality, touch and relationships. The connection to nature and the environment is essential to her work. In addition to language, which she investigates in the forms of poetry, she focuses on textile and technical works such as weaving, dyeing with natural fabrics or experimenting with wood.
Valentina Santner (*2001) ist seit 2021 Studentin der Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien. In ihren Arbeiten versucht sie, sich Themen anzunähern, die sie in aktuellen Lebenslagen beschäftigen. Sprache ist dabei immer von großer Bedeutung. Es ist ein Medium, welches es ihr erlaubt, Gedanken zu ordnen und zu formen. Daher basieren ihre Arbeiten oft auf selbstgeschriebenen Texten oder Gedichten, die in Verbindung mit anderen Medien gebracht werden. So vereint sie ihre Liebe zu schreiben und zu kreieren.
Annika Zwillich (*2002) ist seit 2021 Studentin der Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien. In ihren
Arbeiten beschäftigen sie häufig Themen wie Körperlichkeit, Berührung und
Zwischenmenschlichkeit. Dabei spielt die Verbindung zur Natur und Umwelt stets eine große
Rolle. Neben Sprache, die sie häufig in Form von Gedichten erforscht, liegt ihr Fokus auf
textilem und technischem Arbeiten wie Weben, Färben mit Naturstoffen oder dem
Experimentieren mit Holz.
